Fred Meyer Promotes Biking

Someone share this section of Fred Meyers website "Pedaling to Sustainability & Savings" on the Shift list today. I shop here a lot and have felt a bit guilty about it since well, they're a big company and all that. But this is awesome. Not only does is highlight the environmental and health benefits of biking, but it also talks about safety measures. There is of course a plug about the cycling products they offer, but its not the focus of this page since its hidden towards the bottom.

Someone on the Shift list responded that they used to work there and would get perks for biking to work. That's more than my current employer offers. I really love working for WebMD, but it would be sweet if it offered some biking incentives. There is, however, a good community of bike commuters in the office (we even have a mailing list where people post fun biking stuff).

Hopefully this is a growing trend for all companies. Biking commuting is the future!

UPDATE: Someone responded to this post (on the Shift list) pointing out that the 39th & Hawthorne Fred Meyer
(the one that I shop) at has applied for "LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED for Existing Buildings program." Keep it up Freddies!
