mental biking note

Do not compose blog posts while riding.

Yesterday I found myself thinking of my next "newbie bike commuter" post, and almost rode my bike right into a car that had pulled out in front of me. The absurdity of what almost happened made cancel my musing I had been composing and post about this instead.

As of this week, I've done 3 consecutive weeks of bike commuting, averaging about 3-4 days each week. So long as the weather stays this nice I'll probably get up to everyday. The downside to my increased confidence on my bike is that I'm not in hyper-attention mode anymore. Twice now I've caught myself mentally drifting off, forgetting what I was doing and that I should be paying attention. I'm sure that as soon as I get injured or almost hit, my paranoid side will re-emerge and I'll go back to jumping at shadows. However I'd like to think that I could maintain a relaxed but aware state on my bike. We'll have to see.

reanne the idiot strikes again

I couldn't really call this a "chronicle of absurdity" unless I talked about my recent idiotic move of the year. So Friday I had several beers with co-worker since it was my managers last day (which was really sad because I really liked my manager). Anyways, by the time I got home, I was very tipsy. After Seth (a co-worker) as kind enough drop me off from the bar, I suddenly realized I had no idea where my keys were. I had this sinking feeling and just "knew" that they were gone for good.

First thing I did was text some of my co-workers who I had been drinking with, especially Seth, who was kind enough to give me a ride home. Alas, none of them had seen my keys. Called the bar we had been at, no luck. The next day I sent Trimet a message (since lost & found was closed for the weekend). I called the security for my office building, (once again lost & found was closed). Lindsay lent me her keys while she went hiking with Andy and I made a copy for myself.

The thing that I was really dreading was this morning (Monday) when I would not be able to turn on my computer because I didn't have my RSA secure token. The little device that I need to access the secure data server and is the reason I think I got hired on (temps aren't allowed access to that server). When I first got into the office I wondered around trying to find someone who could help me get a new one so I could log onto my computer. Apparently not that many people are here at 8am, so after a while I sat down at my desk and put my head into my hands.

While sitting there in my caffeine deprived despair (both of the coffee machines weren't working), I suddenly realized there was one part of my bag I hadn't checked. Lo and behold, my keys were there.

Needless to say, I feel pretty damn stupid right now.

Yet Another Druken Misadventure

So it's been brought to my attention that there are some significant "gaps" in my memory for our house party near Halloween.

Here is a just a small list of things I don't remember

  • I slipped and fell in the living room, spilling my drink everywhere.
  • When Shannon first arrived I demonstrated how I was falling out of my costume by pulling down my corset so that I flashed her. [She told me that when I mentioned my costume frustration on the phone before she arrived she told Tracy that she had a feeling she was going to see "Reanne boobies" before the night was through.]
  • Tracy shooting silly string on our ceiling then not cleaning it up.
  • Telling Shannon that even though Tracy hurt her, I thought that she was a cool person an that the 3 of us should hang out more. [I want to emphasize that I in fact, very much dislike Tracy. And to make matter worse, Tracy told Shannon later that she thinks I'm hot. That I'm "just her type". Thank the gods that when I said this to Shannon, Tracy was in the bathroom. Tracy was also in the bathroom when I flashed Shannon].
There are thing that I vaguely remember and to be honest only remember after someone reminding me. In some odd way, I'm kinda relieved to hear that I as far drunker than I first realized that night. The next day I was so miserably hung over that I was confused because I thought I hadn't drank that much. Now that I now I was so drunk I don't remember everything instead of just "pleasantly tipsy" as I thought I was, that hang over seems more appropriate.
