McShame New Attack Ad
I just really hope that the general public will not fall for these blatant lies coming accross in this ad. Gods please don't let McCain get elected.

Obama & McCains chinese names
I love transliteration and below is a perfect example as to why. This week's Chinese Soundbites was about the presidential election here, and included in the vocab was the chinese names for Obama & McCain.
Most chinese version of english names focus more on the sound instead of the meaning. Because of this, when you take translation at one character at a time, sometimes you can get some really funny results.
A final note about translating chinsese names: most characters have more than one meaning, I just posted what worked the best or was the one that I'm more familiar with.

- 麦凯恩 [màikǎiēn] John McCain (麦 oats, barley; 凯 triumphant, victorious; 恩 kind act, grace)
- 奥巴马 [àobāmǎ] Barack Obama (奥 obscure, mysterious; 巴 to hope; 马 horse)

Obama's Acceptance Speech
Simply an excellent speech. I know I sound like yet another giddy Obama fan, but this man is the first politician who makes me feel hopeful. The first who really inspires me. Well first that is alive and contemporary, Bobby Kennedy is still one of my favorite politicians.
Please by all the gods in existence, let this man win. It would be so nice to have a president in office I'm not ashamed of.

McShame Strikes Again
Juxtaposing Obama with Paris Hilton & Britney Spears?! I'm sure McCain could have made the same point with a more relevant comparison. This is just petty.

It's called satire people, look it up
I wasn't going to post about this because I thought it was too ridiculous. What I'm talking about is of course the recent controversial cover to the New Yorker.
I heard about this on NPR long before I saw the actual image. I was expecting something far far worse. When I did finally see it, I thought it was pretty fucking funny. Come people, do we need to review the definition of satire?
What prompted this post was the spoofs of this cover. Both found thanks to the Slog. I personally think the one for the National Review is the best, but both have their merits.

I missed Obama yet again
I know I shouldn't complain. Here am I am in the UK, just returned to my brother's flat in London after 3 days in Edinburgh. Still, I can't believe I missed a chance to hear Obama speak in person yet again.
I tried checking the election page on NPR not too long ago to see if there were any results from Oregon's primary. Silly me forgot in my sleep deprived state (lovely how my insomina travels with me) that its only 1am in Portland. Far too early to see the results and since we have a mail in ballot, I'm not totally sure when I will be able to see the results. If Hilary by some fluke miracle wins Oregon, I'm going to have to disown my home state. I doubt that will happen, it seems pretty certain that Obama will get the nomination.

Obama on the Daily Show
You all have probably seen this already. I'm a little behind in Google reader (work is no longer as boring, so I have less time for things like my obsessive news reading).

Obamamania
I should have post this last week, but after the Cats for Obama link, I had to show this comic from Slate.com too. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big supporter of Obama. Nonetheless, this is very funny.
I also recommend this article from Politico.com, Obamamania verges obsession.
Cats for Obama

Sites like this kinda make me ashamed to consider myself a "cat" person. Still, kinda funny. Check it out, http://catsforobama.com/

Links of the Day
A study finds that coffee may make diabetes worse (I'm a risk for diabetes... & have a pretty strong caffeine addiction)
The Kennedys back Obama (oh please let this be a sign of more endorsements for Obama).
He's at it again... Chavez urges Caribbean & Latin American leaders to create a defense policy and form military alliance against the US.
It not safe being a pedistrian... a Tri-met bus driver hits a woman walking her dog.
A drum set made of cheese!
